Commission guide

If you’re interested in having an artwork commissioned, you can find out more about the process below.

After filling out the request for consultation form or getting in touch with me, here is what to expect next.

As well as discussing your initial thoughts, I often ask a few more questions to expand on the ideas. For example, if it’s a drawing all about a partner, are there any favorite memories, funny stories, holidays, pets or particular possessions that could be linked together in to the drawing. We’ll also explore styles of illustration (options for hand drawn, graphics, digital etc) and any timing, size and frame requirements so that this can be considered in the design and help give an idea of price.

A few days after the consultation, I email a mockup (draft version) of the illustration, along with a quote based on how long I expect the artwork will take, the level of detail, if additional materials are required and size of the design. I normally meet or have a phone call with clients at this stage to talk them through the thinking. Once you’re happy with the mockup and the quote, I’ll take a small deposit (normally 30%) and begin the drawing.

Whilst I’m working, I’ll send you regular updates and images of how the piece is coming together. As well as it being exciting to show progress, sometimes the design can evolve from the mockup as I work on something (e.g. an item might look better placed underneath rather than the side).

After finishing, we can arrange printing, framing and delivery as needed.
